I've been really focused, and going to tons of auditions lately. For the most part, I've been feeling like I've been really rockin' them. Instead of trying to impress, I focus on the story that needs to be told. I connect emotionally beforehand, and try to ignore (or use the emotion from) the competition before going in. And let me tell you, the competition is fierce. Fierce as in mean. It's a weird weird scene, big eyes staring at your shoes, your cleavage, your hair. Kind eyes dying to connect, but slippery mouths that spurt discouraging comments like, "No one ever gets cast from EPA's"... "You don't have any Cole Porter in your book?" ... "You haven't done this before, have you?". It's just a mad scene, and the competition is fierce. We are all competing for a handful of roles...

But... that's no way to think...

I am doing well by focusing on the fact that each of us is unique, and we all have a place in the world. It's not my job to judge. Just my job to go in there and be myself, and be true to the text or lyrics, and try to relax and be myself.
